Kurnool Floods

Floods devastated Kurnool and Mahabubnagar towns of Andhra Pradesh in 2009 causing unprecedented loss to lives, land and property. Roads and houses were swelled with water and communication was cut off from outside world.  Thousands were displaced from homes and a humanitarian crisis loomed before the State Government.

TV9 was the first to take the initiative of providing relief to people. TV9 teams braved flood waters and rescued several persons trapped in homes. Food Centres were set up that provided clean drinking water and food to the hungry. Thousands of tones of food grains received in charity were distributed. When we requested donors for financial aid,  help poured in from all quarters. Stars were roped in for Star Nite fund raising.  TV9 entered into an MoU with A.P State Housing Corporation and raised several crores of rupees that were spent on building 750 houses in Jagannatha Gattu area in Kurnool.  TV9 worked selflessly for the flood affected with the help of volunteers and lived upto its motto “For a Better Society”.

TV9 CLAY GANESHA

Ganesh utsav has become a prominent festival and is celebrated across the state in great jubiliance and fervour. Tall ganesh idols are erected of even 60 feet height and around 70000 idols are kept in and around Hyderabad in various pandals. Now this celebration has picked up beyond imagination to leaps and bounds and more and more ganesh idols are coming up. Unfortunately most of these idols are made of plaster of paris and chemical colours and at the time of immersion, they are polluting our water bodies.

The chemical contents in plaster of paris and colours are totally contaminating our water bodies and even posing harmful to our aquatic life and environment as well. Moved by the scale of damage these plaster of paris idols are creating to our mother nature, TV9 has been campaigning for ECO GANESHA concept since 3 years. As part of this campaign, tv9 has been successful in creating awareness and bringing a change in the society about the making and installing of eco ganesha idols at our home, our area, colony etc. Tv9 is overwhelmed by the response it got from public. Now most of them are preferring green ganesha idols rather than the plaster of paris ganesh idols.

Taking this campign further, TV9 initiated the concept of erecting the tallest green ganesha idol of 55 feet height at Durgam cheruvu with the support of an organization called SHARE A SERVICE. This tallest ganesha is totally made of clay brought from the banks of river ganga, dry hay and natural colours. The main motive and the essence of this initiative is to assure that atleast by next year we would be successful in eliminating plaster of paris idols and go only for green ganesh idols only. The partners in the eco ganesha journey are AP TOURISM DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION, THE HINDU, RADIO MIRCHI, KALAMANDIR FOUNDATION, MY HOME CONSTRUCTIONS and HELP IN TIME ASSOCIATION  and many student volunteers.
